About
Bpifrance Amorçage Industriel (BAI) is a €50M fund launched in 2023 to fill a gap in French financing: industrial startups developing incremental innovations in mature markets, too low-risk for deeptech, too physical for traditional tech funds. The thesis is clear: support companies that want to produce in France, after prototype validation by clients, during the serial production experimentation phase. Check sizes from €250K to €2M, minority stakes, systematically co-investing with an industrial or financial partner with sector expertise. All sectors eligible: textiles, agri-food, household appliances, materials, equipment. A sine qua non condition: a significant portion of production must be carried out in France. For an industrial startup in seed or Series A looking to move from prototype to the first production line, BAI is often the first institutional investor to take the plunge, which then unlocks private investors.
