Investor profile | Builders Republic
About
BOLD, for Business Opportunities for L’Oréal Development, is L’Oréal's venture capital fund, created in December 2018. It takes minority stakes in startups across the entire beauty value chain, while preserving their autonomy, focusing on two areas: beauty and wellness brands, and science and technology serving beauty (biotechnology, green chemistry, data). It invests from the group's balance sheet, from pre-seed to growth rounds, opens L’Oréal's research, brand, and distribution teams to companies, and has partnered with Nykaa to co-invest in Indian brands. After Sillages Paris, its first investment in 2018, it led the Series B of the American company Debut and the Series D of the Swiss company Timeline, alongside Nestlé. In France, BOLD led the €15M Series B of Microphyt in 2022 and participated in the €35M round of Abolis Biotechnologies in 2024. For a beauty or biotechnology startup, it is a shareholder that opens the laboratories and brands of the world's leading cosmetics group.
